This was helpful for a Teen who needed it

I work as a therapist in a teen counseling program, and one teen girl has just been diagnosed with HCV. She's experienced all the common reactions: denial, grief, "This is a death sentence and God doesn't want me to be happy," and fear. I bought this book for her and she devoured it. Her entire affect changed, and now she's teaching US how to relate to her, how to talk about this diagnosis, why certain things WE say are insensitive or incorrect (without knowing it), and what emtional and lifestyle changes she needs to make for health. This book alone reduced her fear in half, and made her feel confident rather than powerless.

The only book you will need

I picked up this book at the library. I have a friend who was recently diagnoed and wanted to learn more. The book was easy to read and understand. Tons of information on all aspects of Hepatitis C. I have given this book to my friend and they are very excited to read it. They have read alot about Hepatitis C and everything was bad news. This book will give you hope to live a healthy life.

A Guide for Living

This is the first hep c book I have seen that gives guidelines for what to do about my drinking and drug use. The chapter called Prioritzing Lifestyle Changes was exactly what I needed. I also related to the stories that the people in the book told and the list of questions that people with hep C ask. I could have written them myself. These authors really know what it's like to get diagnosed with hep C and they introduce you to all the different treatments out there. the stories made me feel better about interferon, but interferon is not your only choice. There are lots of alternative treatments that are less harsh on your body, and they can make the interferon easier too.

a compassionate and uplifting book

I've read a bunch of books on hep C. This one is certainly the most compassionate and uplifting. It also covers the widest range of topics and is the most helpful all around. It's written by two women who have hep C themselves. They talk about relationships, sex and self-image, as well as medical topics. I felt they really understood what I'd gone through and what I'm still going through. The book is called "an essential guide for the newly diagnosed," but it's really for everyone with hep C. I got diagnosed with hep C about 4 years ago. The shock subsides, but the fear and confusion don't go away. I've met so many other people who are desperately seeking information. I'm glad this book is out there. It's a great reference book too. I've checked out some of the websites in the back & looked into some of the herbs they discuss. Highly recommended!
