The Field Guide to Rain Forest Animals [With 51 Piece to Assemble 8 Rain Forest Animals/Diorama]

The writeup said it contained pieces to make a number of jungle animals, and was only missing the pocket for the rainforest backdrop. There were no animals to assemble and no backdrop. The book has water damage inside both covers. This is not a book I would call "acceptable" since the lack of animals and backdrop should have been mentioned. It's not a "deal" unless I know what I'm buying. Other than that it would have been a neat book for kids.......

This hardcover book is unique since it serves two functions: a fun fact book and a play set. A fold out panoramic view of the rain forest with animal puzzle pieces in each chapter, allows a child to role play with animal figures. The play set can also be broken down into its component parts to be re-assembled later. Recommended for 8 years and up, the reading level is appropriate for a 2nd grader or above. The illustrations are vibrant in color and well done. Chapters are organized by animal with numerous factoids about the habitat, behavior, diet and characteristics. A puzzle piece of each animal is compartmentalized into little envelopes in each chapter. This is a great book for traveling (hotel room) or some place where a decent amount of space can be used to set up the backdrop and figures (size of a small end table or coffee table). The only limitation of this set: No envelope/jacket for the rain-forest backdrop. VERDICT: This book is highly educational and will keep your child occupied. Two thumbs up!
