If you like sweet but not saccharine

I liked this book. I actually don't read a lot of the sweeter romances. Not because I don't like them but because I usually have my nose stuck in an urban fantasy or paranormal. I got this book at a conference. It is really very good. Joe Riley is a character with emotional depth. He truly falls for Lisa and her kids as a package deal. The mistakes he makes are very realistic as are the way he learns from his mistakes. Lisa seemed almost too good to be true. I would have liked to have seen her be a bit more than a nice church-going Kansas girl. Still, she had backbone and her kids came first always. The story itself is absolutely typical HQ fare. It's a sweet romance that closes on the bedroom door. There is sensuality but it is very delicate. Kelly has a deft hand there that I really liked. The secondary characters are well written. I'm hoping I know who Ginger ends up with in her book. I know I'll keep my eye out for Megan Kelly's next book as well as buy her first one. She's a competent author who knows how to tell an emotionally fulfilling story.

Romance and family values at its finest

Megan Kelly wins this reader over with her second book. What I found the most enduring about The Fake Fiancée were Lisa's children. I was drawn into the story because of Bobby and Abby. They reflect what it's like to live in today's society and Kelly's wit only enhances the characters. The way Joe engages with Lisa's children is enough to make any woman melt. Lisa is a lucky girl to win this hero's heart. If you are looking for a romance that makes your heart ache as well as enough humor to keep you laughing, then don't miss this book.
