Acts as a treasure trove for armchair detectives. This book examines oddities and raises questions about facts always taken for granted. This description may be from another edition of this product.
The person who reviewed this book before me and said it was a good introduction to the subject hit the nail on the head. And to be truthful, subjects like the Oera Linda book, Andrew Crosse and Time Slips get a pretty good discussion here, written in the Wilson's usual dry yet informative style. A good introduction to weird oddities.
Excellent Survey of the Weird

The greatest part of this book is the introductory essay by Wilson, delineating hos opinions on paranormal subjects. The rest of the book is an interesting look at many of histories mysteries. The purely historical stories were written by Damon, Colin's son, and the more paranormal ones are coved by Colin himself. Unlike many such books, this tome covers some of the more obscure topics that one rarely hears discussed. The Grey Man of Ben MacDhui, Twins, The Shroud of Turin, the "real" Mona Lisa, the appearnace of Joan of Arc after her death, the original Dr. Frankenstein, and so on. One would like to know how much of this stuff Wilson actually takes seriously and how much is just him amusing himself and keeping an open mind, but he does so much so very well in this book, that it;s hard not to like it. Well-written and spellbinding.
Chilling and informative!!

The greatest of all the mysteries have culminated here! If you are a paranormal buff you will love some of the not so often seen mysteries such as: moth man, Ben Macdui, and many other very real but very uninvestigated vestitures of our paranormal history. Take the week off when you get this one, because you won't put it down until its done!
Good survey of the genre

Including topics from ghost ships to haunted mountains, the Bermuda Triangle to Bigfoot, this book serves as a good survey of lots of different "Unsolved Mysteries." All of the usuals are here - UFO's, Atlantis, Nessie, and other - as well as quite a few more obscure mysteries - Ben MacDuhie, the Sect of the Templars, Orfyreus's perpetual motion machine, and more. If you're looking for ten to twenty pages of fascinating reading on each of a score of subjects, I highly recommend this book... Lonnie Dusch
