As a published author of two novels and a five-time US Adult figure skating medallist, I'd like to say that those who have criticized this book have no idea how much time and effort goes into a work like this-or any book for that matter. I can't imagine the hours, days, months, and perhaps years it took for Mr. Malone to gather and cull through the annals of skating history, and put it all together to make a book that those of us who are skating enthusiasts can turn to for historical information. Yes, he made some mistakes, some of them primary. But overall it is a good book that no one else has attempted. Its mistakes could have been corrected had subsequent editions been published-though that possibility was most likely squelched by its audience being turned off by the over-zealous skating purists who spent one minute writing reviews that say "DON'T buy this book," to offset the vast amount of time Mr. Malone spent to get the majority of his material correct. This is a book that I often refer to, month after month, year after year, and it never ceases to bring me pleasure.
