Book Overview

First published in 1994, this book was hailed as a cutting-edge, theory-driven report from the front-line trenches in the battle for social justice. Both clinical and community oriented and written from a global perspective, it presents clients speaking for themselves alongside reports of prominent social work educators. This new edition puts greater emphasis on "how-to" skills in working with people toward their own empowerment and stresses multiculturalism...

A Triumph!

This, the second edition, is one of the best practice books in social work to come out in a long time. Using a multifocal vision, this book spells out the principles of empowerment as a method. This is the kind of book that makes you want to know the author personally because of the human touch that is provided; this book is very readable too.The subtitle--Building the Beloved--speaks for itself. I appreciated the up-to-date references and statistics. An excellent reference book for instructors and social workers interested in the empowerment approach.
