Worst Book I've Read This Year.

This book might have been a fairly good read were it not for the fact that the progression of the plot is constantly and repetitively interrupted while Khan indulges in a rant or ten about colonialism or the British or white people, or all three combined. It is distracting and wholly unnecessary. The denoument is long, muddy, and wandering, and let's face it: the character of Persis is unpleasant and unlikeable, making it difficult to maintain particular sympathy or even interest in her (too) many hangups.
