Bentley does it again

WOW !!!! Don't start reading this book until you have plenty of time - this is another page turner !!!

Another smash hit from Bentley Little!!!

More in the line of His Father's Son this book delivers the action-packed horror you expect from Bentley Little. Kudos to little for another great read!!

A departure from the norm, but excellent nonetheless!

A group of UCLA students make the long drive to Nevada to attend the Burning Man celebration. They let loose and enjoy the party atmosphere around them. One morning, Gary, one of the students, awakes feeling drugged. He looks around find his girlfriend, Joan, is missing. His friends, Reyn, Stacy and Brian, awaken, all sharing the same drugged feeling. They search the festival grounds and cannot locate Joan. They all need to get back to campus for class, so they head to the local police station and attempt to file a missing person's report. Informed that a report cannot be filed until Joan is missing 48 hours, they reluctantly make the drive back to campus. Once they arrive on campus, they decide to file a report with the local police. The police arrive and inform the group that Joan isn't a student at the university. They log onto Facebook and discover that not only has her student record been deleted, but so have her social media accounts. Gary begins to dig a little more into his girlfriend's life and unveils a dark past. Soon he and his friends are all in danger, running from those who are desperate to remove all traces of Joan's life in the "outside." The Disappearance is a bit of a departure from the horror fiction for which Little is known. That said, it still has the essense of a horror novel. It's full of chilling suspense, intensified by extremely well-developed characters. Looking at other reviews, "fans" of Little criticized him for this shift in his writing, but I applaud him for his versatility! So, if you are looking to take the leap into horror fiction, Bentley Little's The Disappearance just might be the stepping stone you need! Highly recommended!

Not a dull page!

I stayed up for two days reading this book and did nothing else.. From page one to the end its incredible.. I have every Bentley Little book and this one was not a let down unlike the last book "His Fathers Son".I highly recommend this to every fan..Its not as gore filled or terrifying as most of the others, but just as disturbing and ate up as the rest :) Excellent and not a dull moment.Another reason Little is the High Priest of terror.. Anyone that can send me a list of authors that meet his standards let me know.

Not exactly Little, but still Bentley...

I agree that this novel is a little different than most of his other books. But there are still a lot of "Bentley Little" elements throughout this novel. I thought the last book "His Father's Son" was way different than previous books, but still found it a great read. I found "The Disappearance" to be very interesting. I couldn't put it down. The story flows from start to finish. Again this novel was not bad at all!

A novel of Terror...not Horror.

I highly doubt the first two "reviewers" read THE DISAPPEARANCE based on their slim comments. Anyways, I found this book to not be the usual Little-style horror at all...and I am fine with that. This book contains many scenes of terror and suspense more than horror. While some stuff was certainly horrific, I felt that Mr. Little is stretching out into a more complete writer. The plot is pretty suspenseful. Gang of UCLA students attend BURNING MAN festival...one gets kidnapped and the search is on for her. Upon this search the gang uncovers secret lives of cops, higher-ups, etc. They also expose a Cult. Saying anything else will ruin this great book. Bentley's characterization is the strongest of any of his previous books. The dialogue moves the plot along at a fine clip...and the conclusion is hot as Hell (you will get this reference upon finishing the book). If you are looking for guts-out horror...look elsewhere...but if you want to read a compelling hard mystery that is a suspenseful terrifying book, THE DISAPPEARANCE is for you.
