Great Illustrations and a story of making amends.

This was one of my favourites as a kid. I love the expressions on the dog’s face. The story is about a lonely dog in a store who is bought to live in the country. He learns to dig to fit in, but in his excitement he goes too far. It has a happy ending, and I can see how children can relate to this theme. It’s a classic and a cute story.

A fun classical book that kids live to hear

This is a wonderfully fun book to read. It was one of my cousin’s favorites when he was young, so I bought one for my kiddos. Now over 20 years later I’m buying this great read as gifts for new arrivals!

NOT MUCH TO NOT LIKE ABOUT THIS ONE

This is probably one of the best, and certainly one of the most favoriet books(for those who have read it) written for children over the past several decades. The story is simply about a dog who is in a pet store (not a pound as several reviewers have stated who probably never actually read the book) and is purchased by a small boy. The dog, Duke, due to his being in a pet store has never learned to dig. Well it does not take long for him to learn and he does indeed becom the Digging-Est Dog around. Duke does get into trouble! The story is told through the dogs eyes and done in verse. This is a wonderful bed time story book and a great book to read to a class of children. I have yet to find a child who did not like it, which bottom line, is the best indorsemnt for any children's book. The illustrations are great as is the writing. Recommend this one highly.

A True Classic

Unlike many of the other reviewers, I did not have this book when I was a kid, but I can recognize a true classic when I read one. Its so much better than the vast majority of the books coming out today. My four year old loves this book and it has been instrumental in giving him a great step ahead in learning to read.I think that's because it has the right blend of plot and humour, vocabulary and rhythm, to engross a child, and just as importantly, to keep up adults' interest so they will not be sick of it after reading it the umpteenth time.Similar to the Seuss books, but actually better quality.

I Loved this book!

When I was younger, my mom gave this book to me and I read it all the time. We moved a few times and could no longer find it. I have since been through college and am a teacher. We have continued to look for the book, even when I worked in a book store, to no avail. We could not remember the author's name. Thank you so much for having this book within your books. It means so much to me.

Twenty-fiveyears later, I still can quote many of the lines!

I'm delighted that this book is still in print! I read it over and over when my daughters were small. I enjoyed it as much as they did!The first description on this page doesn't do the book justice. It's not just about a dog learning how to dig and he digs up the whole town. It's about getting carried away with enthusiasm. It's about accidentally making people angry. It's about rescue of the dog inspite of being angry with him. It's about forgiveness. It's also about the dog fixing what he messed up. His ACTIONS SHOW that wants forgiveness and he makes friends with the people (and other dogs) he accidentally made angry. It's about LIFE.The rhyme, rhythm, humor, and illustrations are great! You can't miss this one!

Favorite-est Story!

I loved this book when I was a kid and now my children are enjoying it themselves. The art is wonderful for young children and the rhyme holds their attention well. A good bed time story. "I was the happiest dad who ever turned, to a book from which to read he'd learned. My children are enjoying too, a beloved tale that when young I knew. My mother sat me on her knee so the Diggingest Dog I could see. And now I share the same with three."
