Book Overview

When we experience the powerful force of a waterfall, the elusive beauty of a rainbow, or the stark strength of a craggy expanse of cliff many of us have perceived "something else" that goes beyond the five senses: feelings of peace, comfort, healing, and inspiration. Native traditions throughout the world have taught that these intuitive impressions are caused by the subtle forces of the living world. These forces are known by different names: angels,...

Inspiring but not particularly readable

This wasn't the easiest of books for me to read, but was nonetheless inspiring, and I feel it has brought me closer to nature. This important book contains much information otherwise rarely available. Preliminary chapters illuminate us as to the development necessary in us humans in order to begin to establish a connection to devas and nature spirits - self-awareness, compassion, respect and humility being key words. The final part of the book provides us with practical information for preparation to commune with these wise and mighty spirits. It is suggested to visit 'planetary power spots' like the Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, Mount Fuji or Niagara Falls, once prepared. We learn that we may receive advice from devas on all, including personal, matters. Healing energy may be accessed for ourselves and others. Like attracts like, so the more harmonious, loving and respectful we are, the greater our chances of attracting contact with a high being. In reality, nature is not divided into separate kingdoms, 'All of the natural world is related as one kingdom.' I would recommend this book for those with a serious desire to communicate with the devic kingdom. A high-quality book.

Great Information!

This book gave great information on the subtle spirits all around us. It helped me understand that Nature is truly alive in so many ways and can be contacted if only we try.

Excellent Book!

This book serves as an excellent introduction to those who want to attune to the subtle energies of nature. It is well researched, concise and is definitely a must read!

Welcome to the Invisible World

I often recommend this book and it is excellent on so many different levels. The Deva Handbook is a great reference for people who want to work with nature spirits. Altman gives all the basics on devas and places of power, citing such well-known clairvoyants as Geoffrey Hodson and Dora Van Gelder Kunz. He writes from an ecological point of view, encouraging readers to have communion with the devas. Four factors can help facilitate this communion: a genuine interest in working with nature spirits; approaching nature with feelings of wonder, curiosity and respect; being open to the psychological, mental and spiritual possibilities nature spirit communion can bring about; and cultivating an awareness of and sensitivity to the natural world. The book has great black and white nature photographs and is a comprehensive overview for readers wanting to know more about devas and nature spirits. Unlike most books on similar subjects, his focus is on two-way communication, emphasizing humility and alignment with the devic realm. With clear writing and an extensive bibliography, it is an excellent choice for those interested in further exploration of the invisible world. Altman writes that living reality is always a changing reality. "When we embrace the reality of change, we become more open to what the 'now moment' has to teach us."

Worth Twice The Price

This book is both sensible and inspiring. Of particular value is the considerate and respectful focus upon ordinary landscapes in addition to well known, global sites with established powerful devic activity. Angel Falls and Ayers Rock, etc. are covered very well but Mr. Altman gives equal time to wildflowers and trees encountered in the urban Brooklyn landscape. A wide variety of earth based cultures are included for consideration of belief structures, myths, and energetic relationship to the devic realms. I'd love to buy this one for everybody I know - novice, scholar, and full throttle green men and women in the making.
