Excellent, timely and practical!

This is a fantastic book. Seriously, you need to get it and read it. I don’t say this widely about many books I read. Many of you have friends or family who have been questioning their beliefs in God, the Bible and Christianity. Maybe you are struggling with questions and concerns yourself. This book explains why so many people in our churches are leaving and the cultural drive behind it. The book doesn’t just describe the issue though - it clarifies the true biblical response and answers to the legitimate questions people are asking. Questions are good, and the church of God does not have anything to fear from sincere questions. This book provides gracious guidance for those who are interested in finding the truth and for those who want to help their loved ones through their time of doubt or questions. The authors expertly articulate what the catchword “deconstruction” means today within this movement (from the perspective of those who have themselves gone through deconstruction), who some of the key proponents are within the movement, how the methodology of deconstruction plays out according to the examples and/or mentored guidance of those in the movement, when people tend to be more prone to considering deconstruction, and what specific biblical, cultural or religious issues are more likely to create questions or concerns for people which may create the turning point for them and the subsequent rejection of their prior professed faith. After mentioning the most common reasons for deconstructing, the authors offer biblical answers for the questions and concerns thereby showing that the answer doesn’t need to be a rejection of historic Christianity but rather a clarification and return to historic Christianity. We are reminded to always test all preaching and teaching against the entirety of the Bible itself rather than merely take a person’s word for it or rely on our imperfect experiences or fickle feelings. We are to be like the Bereans in Acts 17 who were commended for listening to the church leaders preaching with earnestness but always searching Scripture to verify the Truth as revealed by God in His word. This book is beneficial for those who are doubting their faith, those who are firm in their trust in God, those who are praying that God will grow their confidence in the reasonableness of Scripture, those who are Christian parents, and for every single one of those who are involved in any sort of Christian ministry whether paid positions or lay leaders.
