Book Overview

After fleeing a painful and compromising past, Emma Rose Howard settled eagerly into the role of a pastor's wife. She and her husband, Abel, dedicated themselves to parenting a mega-church and influenced thousands of lives through its related ministries.

But when Emma Rose receives a phone call from a living, breathing remnant of her troubled past, she finds herself wondering if something in her life is woefully out of balance. The presence...

Redemption by boycott or Love

Emma Rose is married to a powerful televangelist who wields his power to boycott immorality in movies, televisions and books. Abel Howard is sincere and moral, giving his heart to Jesus when he was quite young; Abel has held steadfastly to the idea that "rot" of the world must be fleshed out. By his side, Emma Rose, whose past Abel never wanted to discuss, does all her wifely duties and pastoral duties to her fullest. UNTIL, one day, she receives a note....a mysterious 28 year old man wants to meet her and Emma Rose knows now she is on a collision course with her buried youth. How will this affect Abel's ministry and how will she share all the soridness that was her existance before she met Jesus and Abel? Angela Hunt writes so honestly about two sides to a subject....about wiping out evil with force or with Love. This book touched me so deeply and I read it in a day and a half. Her prose is crisp, her issues relevant, her presentation, Godly. This is a beautiful read and if you need to remember why Jesus walked this earth, this book is for you.

Amazing, powerful, should be required reading for all Christians

This book belongs in every church library and as a part of every church book club. The issues raised between being a Christian and being a follower of Christ are powerful. Hunt does a wonderful job of capturing the quest of perfection that so many Christians are on, only to forget that we are sinners too, and to be surprised by the sin we find in the world. Emma is a true 3-dimensional character who I would love to know in real life, and I will miss her now that the book is done. It's a great inside look at the life of a televangelist and the missteps even they take on the way. But most of all, this is a powerfully moving story of a mother, her son, and what they teach each other about faith and the Lord.

Touching story

The Debt is a beautifully written and captivating book. One of the major themes of the book is the fact that being religious and behaving like Jesus are not always the same things. It's a story about showing kindness and love to all people, regardless of their actions or circumstances. This was the first Angela Hunt book that I have had the pleasure of reading and it won't be the last. The characters are well developed and the plot is thought provoking. This book made me revaluate the kind of Christian that I am and how I can be kinder and more aware of the needs of others.

Outstanding

This novel should be required reading for all Christians, especially for people who have been in the faith for many years and may have forgotten that we are called to reach out to those who don't know Christ. Let's not stay insulated in our safe sanctuaries. Let's get out and minister to a hurting culture.I cannot praise Ms. Hunt's storytelling abilities enough. I've always loved her books, but this one is special. I'll be telling others to read it.
