Dawning of a New Age

...Now I have been a dragonlance fan since I was arounf ten years old. That's almost 12 years. I have read over 70 of the books in the series and I own everyone released to this day. Now personally this is one of my favorite dragonlance books of ALL TIME. So go ahead and lynch me. Now that I got that out of my system I might as well write the review. This takes place after the Chaos war (dragons of summer flame). It centers around a new group of heroes. Who try to put a stop to the Dragonlords of krynn who are gaining more power every day. Dhamon Grimwulf is the main character of this book. He is a former Knight of Takhisis, dark paladine. The book also deals with the waning magic of Krynn. All and All I think this is a great book. I suggest you grab this trilogy and the Dhamon Saga trilogy as well.Zombie

This was the first Dragonlance book I've read in a long time, having strayed from game-related fiction. Well, it hooked me, and I'm back. I especially enjoyed the dragons--which were not humans in big lizard suits. They were otherworldly and powerful, alien. My favorite character, however, was killed. It took me about thirty pages to get over it.

I was hesitant to pick up this book because of some of the reviews. But, I figured what the heck, paperbacks aren't expensive. Boy, I was glad I did get it. The action was a little slow at first, as it took a while to introduce all the characters. But then it picked up and moved along. I liked the mix of characters, especially the two sea barbarians. And I liked Dhamon Grimwulf. I went out and bought the other two books the next week.

I gave up on DRAGONLANCE a long time ago. I was tired of the endless focus on the Companions, the War of the Lance, and gods. This series looks exciting and I enjoyed every page of this novel. Finally DRAGONLANCE is about people against impossible odds and not how the gods can manipulate them today. I wished Jean could have gone more indepth about the discovery of the new magic but finally seeing Palin with a spark of life was enough for now.

IF you have read this book, and did not like it then stop right here. If you haven't read it, listen up! I have been waiting for more books that center on powerful dragons and adventurers out to stop them for a while. Most of the other books center on the war of the lances and feuds between the gods and such. This book keeps you interested with action and deception, while introducing some new characters and baddies such as spawn. Spawn being a mix of draconian shape with powers of a chromatic dragon and a human mind. This book rocks! After reading it I literaly went to every bookstore I saw, trying to find the sequel which hadn't been published yet. (I went to 7 bookstores in 3 states. That's how good this book is!) Jean Rabe should make many more books in the series to keep people like me sane! I am still mindlessly awaiting the next book in the series, The Eve of the Maelstrom. If you have read this one and liked it, make sure you check out The Day of the Tempest which is the second book in the sequel.
