I first read this in 1983,and several times since.Martin Benedict is an English officer at the outbreak of war. As a result of a personal tragedy, his distaste for Hitler's political system becomes very personal. This is a great story with lots of detail about the ability of a civilized and moral person, for a greater purpose, to blend into the devil's lair of Nazi Germany. It's adventurous and suspenseful right from the start. It's hard to put down once you get into it.I highly recommend it.If the reader wonders at how such a formerly 'civilized'countrycould come to personify human evil, this is a good read.
