The Court of Three Sisters

This is a very ambitious Romance. Themes include predestination, reincarnation, past life regression, trust and fidelity. The three motherless Fairchild sisters join their Archeologist Father at his current Dig. The Dig has been marred by thievery, murder and professional envy. Professor Carruthers has been poisoned and his friend, Col McCallum, has come to investigate his death. Back to the sisters: One sister, Thea, is unhappily married, another, Fanny, is impatiently just coming of age and the third sister, Summer, is painfully crippled. Summer was injured in a mysterious accident. The events of that day are lost to amnesia and nightmares. But the more keenly felt injury, is her family's smothering protective attitude toward her. There are numerous mysteries in this novel. What happened to Professor Fairchild's wife? How did Summer come to fall off a hillside cliff? Who murdered Professor Carruthers? Will Summer regain her memory of the events leading to her fall. Why is Col McCallum using an alias? Did he murder his brother, Lord Fitzroy? Who stole the Venus of Ilykion? The author interweaves two time frames, Ellysia in 1888, and a Minoan city, three thousand years prior. It is all done seamlessly. Each sister has her own romance. The marital misfortune of their father is revealed. All of the mysteries are satisfactorily resolved. Summer finds a man worthy of her indomitable spirit. Recommended.

I loved the fact that the heroin is handicapped, and I loved the intertwining of two stories centuries apart. You can't go wrong with this book. I don't keep many books, but I kept this one and read it every few years.

A great big book with an intriguing story. I especially liked the fact that Ms. Willman chose a handicapped person as her heroine. Like her other novels this one has a touch of fantasy to it as well.
