The Complete Idiot's Guide to JavaScript

While only a moderate HTML coder for my own personal web page...and i had worked some with the learning edition of VB....this book on elementary JavaScript caused me to really understand Functions and Methods and Function Calls. If you want to start on the ground floor with JavaScript and want some comparison background with JS -vs- other scripting and programmng languages...this should be one of the books you start with. I found the depth of coverate to be adequate and the explanations very good. It left me wanting more and desiring to use JavaScript in new ways...so i have checked out Forms Tutorials and JavaScript Tutorials on the web and this book was a good primer for those subjects. I would recommend it for the novice JS programmer.

Finally a book about Javascript that ends all the hair pulling and nail biting for those of us who like to keep things simple. I just got this book and all I can say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. After spending endless hours surfing the Web for a way to compose lively, interactive websites, I found the wave of the future and rode it into the Javascript beach only to find myself wiped out on the reefs of books that didn't answer all my questions in easy to understand Amerenglish (American English) This book is a delight from the first sip to the last dregs in the cup. It explains browser compatability issues (which all web authors are concerned with) objects, scripting, the whole shebang in simple, easy to understand language. This book makes Javascript available to the Non-programming masses. It takes you through the motions and sets you on your feet. From there it's a totally tubular ride dude. The book is designed for people who have no previous programming experiance, but want to learn how to make their web page become a professional quality, fully interactive, hit attracting, and fun place on the World Wide Web. If you want to stand apart from old, boring, static web pages, get this book! The book is filled with humor and coffee-related analogies. Now you can learn JavaScript and have a good time while doing it. This book proves that you don't have to be a programmer to learn the concepts of JavaScripting. This book is well organized and formatted in a way that will help non-technical people learn the basics of JavaScript. There is plenty of humor throughout the book to keep you from getting bored with the details, including cartoons at the beginning of each section. It is divided into four parts each part going more in depth into the basics of JavaScript. The first section explains what JavaScript is and how it fits into the scheme of the Internet. The second section helps you get a JavaScript capable browser up and running and also explains how JavaScript is incorporated into web pages. The third section explains the different parts of JavaScript and how to use them in terms anyone can understand. This is achieved by using everyday examples to explain the different parts of JavaScript. The fourth section contains JavaScript examples and ideas on how to implement JavaScript on your web pages. In short this book is perfect for those of us who are not technically minded. It helps explain what JavaScript is and how to use it in terms anyone can understand.

A great book worth reading it. It is written in a simple way. Contains a lot of examples, and teaches the basics of JavaScript programming.
