The Complete Guide to Rocks and Minerals

This book contains more than I expected in language that I can understand. Would recommend for pre-geology course work and amateur familiarity with rocks and gems.

I bought this on the recommendation of a friend and I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of good information on basic geology and fantastic identification pictures of everything from common rocks to beautiful examples of crystals and gems. I found myself using it to identify every pebble and rock in my still life objects box accurately, which helps a lot in titling still lifes paintings. Good field guide for a layman. Explains the scientific terminology well and doesn't presume you're already familiar with it. Not a pocket guide but wonderful once you come home with small pebbles and digital pictures of boulders, explains everything.
