Jasper Carrot, Look What You Started

Mopeds especially the vintage late 70's models have been enjoying an underground revival in recent times, with teens and twenty-somethings snapping up shed relics to do-up and take to the roads. There are even moped gangs, many falling under the umbrella of the notorious Moped Army. Others, such as myself, are in our forties or older and remember the bikes from our younger days and have bought vintage models for the fun and novelty of owning these incredible, quirky-looking machines. This book is old, it's from 1977; it is an invaluable, insightful peek into the world that our bikes were born into. All black and white photos, the book takes us from the moped's historical roots through maintenance and repair and even has pages devoted to the models available in the USA during those days with attached spec sheets and photographs. It is Well worth seeking out a copy of this out of print publication. Note: In the UK most of the resurgence of interest in mopeds has centered on the so-called "sports moped" beloved of sixteen-year-olds in the 1970s. There is a splendid publication dealing with that phenomena called "Funky Mopeds." Laura Torbet's book is unconcerned with those mini-motorbikes with peddles and gears, instead dwelling solely on the step-through designs that were targeted towards granny.
