The Compleat Day Trader II

After reading Jake Bernstein's earlier work, How The Futures Markets Work, I decided to delve deeper into the futures day trading world. This book, The Complete Day Trader II, covers all the, disciplines, psychologies, emotions, and fears potentially affecting the futures day trader. The part I liked the most about the book was Jake's in depth analysis of basic indicators and strategies important to the futures trader. The book also provides an outstanding section describing the different types of orders and when to use them. Because of Jake's background in psychology, the book is loaded with advice on how to control fear and greed. I give this book my highest recommendation.

This book opened my eyes to many new and valuable timing indicators and methods. With a clear and concise writing style, Bernstein points out many caveats and precautions. The chapters on 30 Minute Breakout and Day of Week patterns were especially helpful, as well as the discussion on Open vs Closing relationships and Inside Days. This book helped me confirm that day trading the commodities market is a tough business, but one that can be learned if you have the discipline and motivation for success.After reading some of the negative reviews, I can only surmise that these people must not have read the book ... they are 'way off base.What's more, Bernstein says we can contact him if there are any questions. That's a rare offer these days.

Bernstein has another excellent book. He reviews the tactics taught in Compleat Day Trader I and then goes on to elucidate a number of more advanced topics that, like his other systems, give very clear entry and exit points and therefore help to minimize the risk.Jake also again warns of the risks of day trading and shows the importance of developing one's own rules and consistently following them in order to avoid making costly mistakes.I also cannot help but be impressed with an author who plainly states that he is willing to help his readers, provides a means for his readers to contact him, and then actually makes good this statement. I had some difficulty with one of the trading systems Jake presented because the charting program I was using had a mind of its own. While the manufacturer couldn't help me to clear things up, Jake went out of his way e-mailing and faxing me to help work through my system problems, even though the problem has nothing to do with Jake's system.Jake has another highly informative and easily read book which should be on every day trader's bookshelf.

Due to the erroneous and inaccurate information the author Green has brought legal action against his publication. Some of his remarks are not only undocumented, they are outright false. I have had opportunity to correspond with Jake on this issue and on several other occasions for a variety of reasons. I will say this about him; he is a fair and honest person with the best of intentions. This is evidenced in each of his books in how he strives to prepare the reader for the worst and help lead him or her to profitability. In this book are methods that will stand alone and some that I use with other methods that increase their accuracy to almost %80. Most of you reading this will lose money in all likelyhood. However, this book will help those who are willing to be patient and learn to actually come out ahead in day trading, a rarity indeed. Jake is not able to comment on any particulars of the matter of the Forbes article as it is in the hands of attorneys.
