Horrible

A disturbing amount of rape and violence.

No consent

TW that there is absolutely no consent in this book. At best there is trauma bonding. Remember that real life BDSM should be an exercise in consent, which is definitely not what this book is about. Decent writing, though.

Spicy? More like Bland

If you're looking for a tantalizing read, this ain't it. Which is disappointing considering this is an erotic novel. The writing is bland, the story is basic, and the spice scenes couldn't make a preacher blush. If you can find it at the library, I suppose it'd be worth a free read, but it's definitely not worth buying.

Dated and weird.

It's a very dated storyline that made me feel weird and awkward to read it. I finished it, but I wouldn't read it again.

Um..well Kinda of a spoiler review kinda not.

I love all things kinky and bdsm but Jesus Christ. This was just all non consensual…. Rape-y …. Ness…. It was well Written and the story was great but just wasn’t My cup of tea. It’s very extreme. Last couple chapters were boring and I couldn’t wait to finish this book so I can move on with my life. Now I must cleanse my eyes with holy water.

Dive right in...

...the water's warm! But, seriously, I had heard about this erotic novel for some time and for some reason, never took the time to read it. Big mistake! It was that good for me. Of course, I am totally into these bdsm or s/d books and finding good ones has become increasingly hard. But, still, this sensual erotica tale is just what I was looking for. Anne Rice isn't just for fans of vampire fiction, i.e. "Interview w/the Vampire". This one is for any reader who WANTS sexy literature and wants to enter into another world. A very high recommend to anyone who wants to explore subjects of this nauture, along with Breaking the Girl and Eager to Please: Two Erotic Novels of Submission.

Twisted Sexuality Meets Fairy Tale Fantacy

I had read the reviews of this book before I purchased it myself. I am quite glad I did because it somewhat warned me for want I was getting myself into. This is definately one of those books where the population that reads it will be clearly devided in the middle between love and hate. Personally, I loved it. In fact, I cannot wait to read the next 2 of the trilogy. Definately be prepared for graphic sexual acts and very carefree sexuality. That is what about 75% of what the book is about. The storyline is simple, but the characters go through complex emotions as what happens in the story goes on. If you have just a hair of freakiness in you somewhere......you will enjoy it. Its not a story about love.....its definately a story about sex. Those with just that little bit of interest in this type of book will definately be hooked. I was quite please and definately reccommend it.....but not for the more "conservative" type. Give it a try though....might spark something up in you....then again....it might freak you out. Definately worth it. Enjoy your reading!

Only for the extreme

I found this book to be an extreme that I had never seen in Anne Rice before. She puts no limits to the imagination and sexual fantasies. By any other author, I would believe this book to be trashy and pornagraphic, but Anne Rice pulls it together with a fantastic, erotic, twisting plot. I recommend it to the wild at heart.

Tour de Force in erotic, bdsm literature!

Bravo, Anne! Once again, I am in awe of the sheer brilliance in your writings! I started reading this book out of curiosity, and I could not put it down. I devoured it in one sitting and then went out to the bookstore and bought the other two books in this masterful trilogy. This book is both blatantly and subtly erotic, and is definitely not for the "vanilla" reader. The trilogy is one of the things I love about Anne Rice - she is not afraid to delve into a deeper, less "conformist" sense of eroticism. She does not hold back so as to not offend. I think it would be *very* interesting to see her incorporate vampires into a separate erotic, bdsm series... Vive Anne Rice!

I've read the series and now I want to own it

Very losely based on the the traditional fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty, this series was an unexpected gem from Anne Rice. A little more extreme than your normal erotica, this work could definately be described as pornography (even by the more liberal amoung us). Although I am sure that the literary critics amoung us could find a message for our times within it's covers I personally was to caught up in the action. The Beauty Series would have partiular (perhaps primary) appeal to those with an interest B & D/S & M. Beauty, our heroine of the story (a beautiful princess of course) is forced into servitude as a sex slave. This turns out to be a role which Beauty excels in and through out the novel and series Beauty strives to achieve perfection through great degradation and humiliation. And always there is the search for the perfect lover and perfect love. Recommended bedtime reading only - any other time (eg on the bus, on your lunch break, in the doctor's waiting room) could lead to a very embarassing situation.
