Lots of fun to look at and read

This is by no means an authoratative tome on the Civil War. If you want to know the exact number lost at Gettysberg there are "scores" of such books on the market, such as Shelby Foote's masterful chronicle of our nation's bloodiest hour. This short book presents topics ranging from the Presidents, the generals, African Americans, the soldiers on a double page. The book is not written in paragraph form, but in a series of facts that have no connection from one to the next. Some are quite intersting- Lincoln and Jefferson Davis were born about 100 miles apart. This is fun for someone who already knows the basics of the war and enjoys ineresting trivia a la Cliff Clavin. The thee dimensional aspect is what makes the book special. I wish that more documents could have been included, but the author offers a nice variey of diary entries, photographs, and letters. There is something special about holding two tickets for Ford's Theatre for that fateful April evening. This is a nice addition to a Civil War library

Brings the History of the Civil War to Life!

This book presents a unique look at the Civil War - on each spread there are removable documents, letters, diary entries and the like. Holding these reproductions of old documents in your hands really brings the history of this war to life. I recommend this book for those who know very little about the Civil War, and would like a short but moving introduction to it. For those who know all the ins and outs of the Civl War, they too will find this book fascinating with its reproductions of important documents.

The Civil War:Unstilled Voices book review

The book really brings this gut-wrenching story of American history to life. From John Brown to Robert E. Lee, all the main players in this tragedy jump off the page in this unique format. Seeing the photographs taken on the bloody battlefield broke my heart. You must read this book and experience it for yourself!
