The Church Mice Spread Their Wings is a fabulous opportunity to be swept along on yet another hair brained adventure with our two mice protagonists Hunphrey, Arthur, and their long suffering friend Sampson the cat. Spurred on by Humphrey's notion that they are all becomming victums of the rat race, he convinces the rest of the mice in the church vestry at Wortlethorpe to join them on an expidition to rediscover Nature. Through all of the usual miscalculations and calamities that fans of the series have come to look forward to, they end up on a very unique and foreign shore. What follows is a hilarious series of blunders, and escapes sprinkled liberally with terror, dispare, extasy, horror, bickering, and emotional displays of patriotism. Arthur and Humphrey then have thier own rather disturbing encounter with a carnivore, in which Humphrey has some quiet moments to contemplate his own mortality. Their solution to their dilemma is mouse inginuity at it's best, and the thrillingly illustrated climax of the story is not to be missed. This book is a big favorite at our house with parents and children alike. It's the kind of book that your children will wear out with reading and rereading. I'm replacing our copy for that very reason, so that I will be sure to have it around for the grandkids.
