The Christmas Candle

Easy to read in a couple of hours, and while the message is good, the storyline is disjointed. I've read several other books by this author and enjoyed them but this just didn't cut the mustard for me.

I totally LOVED this book & couldn't put it down. It was SO good!!! If you don't have this book on your shelf then I highly recommend you do so! It's a quick read and easy to understand but still very inspiring!

In THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE, beloved bestselling author Max Lucado spins a light but enjoyable tale of an angel visitation in a small town. Lucado then fast forwards to 1894 and the Village of Gladstone, where the lineage of the candle makers appears to have ended with the death of Edward's son from cholera. "Does that mean the angel visits stop with you?" asks Reverend Richmond, a candidate for minister, of the elderly candle maker Edward who recounts the story to him. "We assume so." Richmond takes the job, despite some Gladstonians' misgivings about his suitability. He has some secrets in his past that make this parish his only option. To the dismay of the citizens of Gladstone, Richmond refuses to preach about the miraculous candle. "I don't preach about candles. People don't need old wives tales," says Richmond. The Christmas CandleIt may be for Christmas, but make no mistake, this book is to enjoyed anytime of the year. A quick, easy read but fully inspirational. Grab several copies as you will want to give as gifts anytime of the year. They will love you for it. (AS a bonus, the price is right and will leave you change in the wallet even if you a 10 or so copies for the best gift of the year.) Max Lucado should be considered the "Nora Roberts" of the religious genre.

This book was so easy to read that I read it all in one day. It is a simple story of faith and hope and was perfect for the Christmas season.

I have read almost everything that Max Lucado has written except for his children's books. In the past I would have said that his skills lie in his more theological texts rather than fiction, but this book has changed my opinion. The story was a very quick read and I was sorry to see it end. It was somewhat predictable but sweet and gentle. It brought home the points Max was trying to make without hitting you over the head. In addition, it was entertaining and set one up in the "Christmas mood." This is one book that will sit on my shelf and be read year after year at the Christmas season.

I set out to read this short book in sessions, but ended up not being able to put it down. I read it all in one sitting and I loved it. Very uplifting and such a good message about faith and God's miracles.
