It was a very interesting experience to find a book 30 years old on the controversy surrounding the place of cholesterol in the human diet. At the time it was written, the fad was toward polyunsaturated oils, which people were taking in massive doses in an effort to prevent heart attacks. The facts about polyunsaturated fatty acids are such that nobody in his right might would do such a thing if they were known. Did you know, for instance, that they leave "clinkers," or "cinders" of cells that they have killed? That they are responsible for liverspots? That they are responsible for premature aging of skin and other organs? That they are so effective in suppressing the immune system that compounds of polyunsaturated fatty acids can even be used as anti-rejection treatments in transplant patients? The author and his wife did a wonderful job of explaining the facts, the faulty and fraudulent "studies" of these fatty acids in the human diet. If you are interested in finding out the thinking on this subject in the early 70's, this little book (170 pages or so) is an excellent place to start.
