The Checker Players

The Checker Players is an outstanding book that promotes cooperation and respect between two very different men...a carpenter who is super organized, and a tinkerer who dreams. The comical nature of their meeting to play checkers is worth the reading but a grand discussion about what was learned when they finally decided to build a boat together, is priceless. All classroom teachers would love the book for the effect it has on students. "What did the carpenter do to solve his problem? The tinkerer? How did it work out? Can you two work out your differences?" This country could make good use of the spirit of this book. This book leads the way for all kinds of good-will between opposites. I used it in my classroom every year and now, with my grandchildren. Every family or group could use this book and make a better world. Cannot praise this book enough....a real keeper!
