The Carrie diaries review

This book is really easy to read, fun and have a nice cover. recommended for all girls but more specific for teenagers though. Nice to know Carrie before sex and the city. Her character in the tv show seems however far from her adolescence.

THE CARRIE DIARIES follows Carrie Bradshaw pre-Sex and the City. Seventeen-year-old Carrie is just beginning her senior year in high school, and like all girls she falls for the gorgeous bad boy, Sebastian Kydd. Before long, Carrie and Sebastian are a couple - and the envy of the popular girls, who harass Carrie and make her life harder than it needs to be. Besides Carrie's hot-and-cold relationship with Sebastian, she also has to deal with a huge secret her best friend, Walt, is keeping, and a betrayal that threatens to ruin a lifelong friendship in an instant. Fans of Sex and the City will enjoy this novel, as it gives a lot of information on Carrie's family life and what inspired her to become a writer. It also recounts how it is that Carrie arrived in New York all those years ago, which ties it in nicely with both Candace Bushnell's adult novels and the show. Reviewed by: Angela S.

A quick and satisfying read...

A lot of reviewers have dogged on this book saying that it doesn't jive with the show, but I think it is unfair to poorly rate this book because Michael Patrick King (executive producer of Sex and the City, who also wrote many of the episodes)had a different vision of Carrie Bradshaw than Candace Bushnell. If anything, I am more disappointed that the show didn't closely mirror the Carrie that we meet here in this novel as she is someone who I instantly liked and could empathize with. Either way, you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Tell Me About It!

Candace Bushnell, best known for "Sex and the City" and "The Lipstick Jungle," presents us with a prequel to Carrie's story (Carrie from S/C) in "The Carrie Diaries." It's Carrie's senior year, she needs a boyfriend, and she'd like to have a better social life. She wants to be a writer, she wants to go to New York, she wants to get out of her little town, and she wants revenge on the campus Queen Bee, Donna LaDonna (How great is that character's name?). Of course, getting what you want is not getting what you need, and the book absolutely romps through Carrie's misadventures, miscommunications, and misdeeds. Bushnell creates a wry YA voice for Carrie with clear character seeds for the woman we know Carrie becomes. I also liked the way Bushnell represents the high school kids getting rowdy without being completely disgusting, and the patient goodness of Carrie's father. This is a perfect summer read for the beach or a long trip by air.
