pretty good read for Pirates of the Caribbean fans

This was a pretty good book for fans of the Pirates series. It had an entertaining story and was a quick read. However it was a bit confusing because it picked up pretty far into the future after the young Jack Sparrow series by the same author, and it felt like something was missing in between the two series.

The Legends Begin...

Rob Kidd delivers a fairly decent entry into his growing collection of books spun off from the ever-popular PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films. THE CARIBBEAN, book one in his newest series, LEGENDS OF THE BRETHREN COURT, definitely gives fans something to enjoy until the next piratical film. The writing moves along very swiftly, but not so much that story-building and some minimal character development happens. This first volume focuses in on a mysterious new villain, the Shadow Lord, who has control over an army of shadows that will destroy anything in their path. He plans to use this army to get rid of the nine pirate lords and then bring the seven seas under his control. In the meantime, Jack Sparrow has command of The Black Pearl, and is eager to begin a new chapter in his pirating life. Throw in some subplots about Tia Dalma, a Spanish princess, and the snarky pirate Barbossa, and you've got some definite material for a good read. This series does tie in somewhat to Rob Kidd's previous pirate books in the JACK SPARROW series, and while it's not required to have read those before THE CARIBBEAN, they definitely shed some light on characters from those books who come into play here. Added in the story are some footnotes that help to remind the reader (without giving anything significant away) about the events of the previous 12 books in the JACK SPARROW series. This volume is also longer than any of those were, which I liked a lot. The JACK SPARROW books are so short they're almost like a snatch of air, whereas THE CARIBBEAN has a little more meat to it. Hopefully, the rest of the series continues along a similar vein...

Pirates of the caribbean books

This book was the perfect gift my son loved it. He read all the other pirates books by Robb Kidd and loved this one just as much. Perfect series for young boys to read.

Continues the Jack Sparrow books

Bought Legends of the Brethren Court, Book 1 for my daughter for her 14th birthday because she just loves the Jack Sparrow: Pirates of the Carribean collection. We can't get them fast enough. She couldn't put this book down and finished it in 2 evenings. She only complained that she felt there was a missing group of books in the middle of both series which I did not seem to know about. She did say that the book was a good read all on its own though. Large print, but no pictures in case you have a younger reader.
