I had "My Bumper Book" growing up. My sister, my brother & I had memorized it & knew most of the book by heart. By the time my children were ready for it, it had become very well used. My children learned it as well. I am the only one with the book. I don't think it will make it for my grandchildren (at least 5 yrs., please). It would be wonderful if it could be reprinted! I know of no child who could resist "A short fat Grandmama with a very slippery knee" & "Animal crackers with cocca to drink".

My Mom picked this book out for me at a thrift store in 1967 (where I bought all my soldiers). I carried it around for the next three years. It was my biggest treasure (besides my Uncle Funny Bunny).
Your Childhood Was Not Complete If You Didn't Have This Book

As a child, my mother read this book to me countless times because I loved it so much. I have been trying to find one for years for my own children's book collection, because I firmly believe no collection is complete without this book. It is full of quality and classic poems, stories, tales, and beautiful pictures. I'm 19 now and this book was my favorite book by far as a child and made such an impression on me that I still want it today. I recommend it to anyone. You will NOT be dissapointed!
everyone should have this classic

My grandmother had only one children's book for us to read when we visited her. Having raised her family as a sharecroppers wife during the depression, she made sure that what she bought was worth having. The Watty Piper's Bumper Book speaks for itself.I can still see Christopher Robin saying his prayers and peeking at Nanny's dressing gown. The illustrations of Wynken, Blynken and Nod are what beautiful dreams are made of.I wish I had been the one who got Mamo's Bumper Book when she died.

A beautifully illustrated book of the 1930's-40s, this children's anthology contains such classic poems as: "Winken, Blynken, and Nod", "The Swing" by Robert Louis Stevenson, " The Owl and the Pusseycat", "Animal Crackers", ABC poem, and many other poems and stories that are easy to understand and read. The rhyming is simple and provide excellent "read-aloud" opportunities as well as individual reading for enjoyment. One of the better features of the book is the illustrations. The beautiful illustrations of each poem and story are colorful, warm and friendly. The style reflects the graphic art of the 30s- 40s and can only be described as warm and charming, inviting one to reflect upon the values of the time and realize that these values should still be seen and cultivated in children's literiture today.
