Women have been involved in every major war in American history - whether behind the scenes or on the front lines. It has not been until recent years, however, that their contributions have become front page news. Before 1991's Persian Gulf War, men and women have never served together in integrated units in a war zone. Since then, women have piloted fighter jets and helicopters, dropped bombs, launched Tomahawk missiles, returned fire, served as military police, became prisoners of war, and died alongside their male counterparts. Placed against a detailed historical backdrop, the biographies of these brave women eloquently illustrate to readers that shattering stereotypes and opening the door for groundbreaking achievements in women's rights can be achieved through simple acts of patriotism.
This book is a great read. S.L. when you first corrected me my initial reaction, besides becoming nauseous, was to buy you a case of cuttysark and send it to you with a note of apology. Huddleston, I'm sorry you're looking at doing a 5th tour, that's a burden that no single person should have to carry. I can only imagine the strain you're many deployments has placed on you're relationships with you're loved ones. As for my last comment which offended you, I take those hurtful words back, I wrote them after I had already apologized profusely, done all in my power to rectify the mistake I had made and you kept attacking me in a personal way. I think you aimed the words you wrote, hoping to hit a raw nerve and I can tell you that you succeeded. I 'd also like to say that I believe women do have a place in the military, I'm also aware that there are female soldiers who are every bit as good as any of their male counterparts, although I'm told most of these females are officers. I also respect, and thank you for you're service to our country. I wish both you and S.L. could speak to my closest of friends who are Iraq war veterans and they would testify to what a good guy I really am. I wish you could speak to a female Marine I consider a friend who would say the same. Any way I hope you and S.L. are both kept safe during you're future deployments. God's speed and take care.
