My favorite childhood book

I also read this book as a child in the mid 70s, and it made a huge impression on me. I probably read it 20 times in all. Being landlocked in Texas, I was never exposed to the ocean or to sailing, but this book did pique an interest in exploration of different places and different cultures that lives with me today. I am giving a copy to my son and would recommend it to anyone.

The boy who sailed around the world alone review

I liked the book because it shows that anyone could do anything they wished to do and in this it shows exactly that. he sailed around the world alone which I think is pretty amazing. In doing something like that I would probably need assistance or someone to help me out.I think the best part in this book is when he first casts out and it's all fine until he gets in trouble with the weather and eventually gets back on track and comes through with the proble. The worst part of the book would have to be the beginning because it doesn't really describe the characters as well they should.I liked when the main character first sailed out and said he will always finish his goals and strive toward them and nothing will stop him. Every storm went by he delt with it swiftly like it was no competition.

Will Inspire your child to follow his dreams

I was given this book as a child in the middle 70's, it started a love affair with the ocean and sailing that has lasted my lifetime. It gave me a hero of someone who didn't get caught up in negative teenage delinquency but instead pushed himself to do somethng no one thought possible. See also National Geographic articles on "Dove" as well as the adult version Dove about this young man. Movie made about this amazing young man as well. Movie not bad, but most importantly, this book provided a start to a passionate pursuit of something positive in my childhood which frankly kept me out of delinquent goals and instead pursuing confidence building sailing skills in Southern California harbors and oceans.
