A Trip to Boston!

The Boston Balloonies: where balloons come alive and take your child on the sights of Boston. We've never been to Boston, but this book sparked an interest in us all to visit, even if it's just to see the Franklin Park Zoo, visit the tortoise and hare at Copley Square or catch a game at Fenway Park. As expected, the illustrations didn't disappoint with their color and detail. And the rhyming tale was very reminiscent of the fun and rythmic stories of Dr. Seuss. My son was especially fascinated with balloons that come alive! After reading The Cods of Cape Cod, I knew this book would be a pleasure! We are offically hooked on these books, and are secretly hoping they create one about Washington, D.C., our favorite place to explore!

Great book for classroom use, too!

The Boston Balloonies is filled with wonderful images--both verbal and visual. The eye-catching illustrations are full of rich detail, with a color pallette and artistic style that is both warm and crisp. Teachers looking for a mentor text would do well to use the Boston Ballonies to show young writers a fresh take on writing a vivid description about a place. Look no further when contemplating what read-aloud to use for a writer's workshop mini-lesson on author's voice in describing an important place!

Explore Beantown with cartoon balloons!

Boston Balloonies is a descriptive and funny tour of Beantown--from the perspective of anthropomorphized balloons! Toddlers to ten-year-olds will enjoy floating and bouncing through pages of wonderfully detailed illustrations and lilting words. The rhymes are buoyant and clever; fun reading for kids and parents. Think more sophisticated Dr. Seuss. The hard cover will be appreciated when this book turns out to be one that's read over and over. Illustration-wise, there is so much going on! Each "Balloonie" is a distinctive, memorable character, and a child is sure to find something new in the Boston scenes' details every time. Overall, Boston Balloonies is energetic and fun for a wide range of readers. No book better explores Boston by balloons!

Fun and friendly storybook.

The Boston Balloonies is a cheery, rhyming children's picturebook about colorful balloon creatures who gallivant about the fine city of Boston and take in its wondrous sights and features. "They drift down the alleys. / They glide up the streets. / They float past the shops / That sell silver and sweets. // And the ones that sell books, / And a few that sell jeans, / And a bunch that are known / For their Boston Baked Beans!" Color illustrations brimming with leap-off-the-page enthusiasm add a special touch of cheer to this fun and friendly storybook.

My kid loves it!

I just bought this book, and my 1 and a half-year old loves it! It's a great price for a hard-cover, and the illustrations are bright and catch my kid's eye. The text rhymes, so I think that helped hold his attention, as well. I would say that the target age range for the book would most probably start at around 1.5 and go all the way up through grade school.
