There is no other bridge book that will prepare you to bid the updated Charles Goren way as well as this book does. The book tells you how to open, overcall, respond, and advance (the four seats at a bridge table). The perfect reader would be a bridge-club member who wants to bid the modern way. You can tell from the cover that this is not the 2003 Edition, but the 2008 Edition. The first edition was in 1961 by Edgar Kaplan, as a promotion by a cigarette company. An intermediate edition was by Jim Becker. The 2008 edition was by Joan and Jared.
The only downside to this book is the poor editing. You will find grammar, punctuation, and logic errors throughout the book. I've edited my copy. Regardless of the errors, the slim book remains the single best introduction to modern bridge bidding, now known as the Standard American Yellow Card (SAYC). A source such as Larry Cohen would be a more accurate guide to bidding, but you can't condense his championship knowledge to 65 small pages.
You may be able to buy this book new from the Beverly Card School. However, the BCS website is more than two decades old.
