Great Author! Wonderful Book!

Passion comes before excellence. That is the lesson of chapter one and where attaining the balance in life starts. In the second chapter he follows up by explaining how talent is developed through use. One must polish the gifts he's been given for them to shine. In chapter three I picked up a key that helps you to stimulate motivation when it has a tendency to fade. That key is "review and revise your goals constantly." One has to be focused, yet flexible for new realities.McGinnis has some profound things to say about maximizing life. He talks about loving other people, loving one's work, and above all, loving God. You can't go wrong by taking the advice he offers in this book.

Changed My Life WOW WOW WOW

This Book Changed my Life. I have a new zeal to excell in anything I put my mind to. I'm 23 and glad that I got my hands on this book at my age. It's so interesting, I read it so quickly. The research is exceptional. The examples of famous successful people and where they started and where they are today, was awesomely encouraging. LOVED IT...LOVED IT...LOVED IT. I see my daily experiences in work and in relationships in a whole new light. Thanks so much ALAN. YOU GO!

Terrific. Dr. McGinnis has done it again!

I've been a fan of Alan McGinnis's books (such as The Friendship Factor, and Bringing Out the Best in People) for a long time. But this new one, with practical suggestions for juggling work and family, is my all-time favorite, perhaps because I'm a working mom, and need help such as this. The author argues that you don't have to choose between being successful at a career and successful at relationships (the book has lots of good tips for singles who want a balanced life as well as marrieds). To the contrary, he says, personality traits such as commitment, discipline, flexibility, are the same necessary ingredients for success at both work and love. The author is a family therapist and knows what he's talking about.
