Book Overview

Nothing puts love and friendship to the test quite like a baby...

When Jill becomes both pregnant and single at the end of one spring semester, she and her two closest friends plunge into an experiment in tri-parenting, tri-schooling, and tri-habitating as grad students in Seattle. Naturally, everything goes wrong, but in ways no one sees coming. Janey Duncan narrates the adventure of this modern family with hilarity and wisdom and shows...

A wonderful debut!

This book was impossible to put down. The storyline is so good, and the characters are so well developed that when you're not actively reading it, you're thinking about what might happen next. The plot twists had me laughing, crying, shaking, banging my head against a wall...and I couldn't read fast enough to get to the conclusion, to know what was going to happen to these interesting people. Very well written. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next from Laurie Frankel.

today's family

An engaging and thought provoking look at the modern family and the contemporary definition of motherhood.

I loved this book!

Every once in awhile I read a book compulsively. That means I read as I prepare dinner; I read when I am supposed to be working; I read in every spare moment I can find. The Atlas of Love is my latest compulsive read. I could not put this book down, and it has stayed with me since I finished it. Instead of reading something new, I only want to re-read this book. Laurie Frankel has a gift for writing. The story is wonderfully compelling. I found myself thinking about what defines a family... blood or love. I laughed; I cried; I became angry and ultimately completely satified with this story. Though this is Ms. Frankel's first book, I certainly hope there will be more to follow. Without hesitation, I recommend The Atlas of Love.

Excellent Debut Novel

I loved this book. The story of these three women, their relationship, and adventure in parenting is insightful, compelling, and fun. As a parent, I know it truly "takes a village" and really related to the story-line and enjoyed all the characters...in particular, the main character and her grandmother. I want to hear what happens next!

Deliciously written

I've re-read the first paragraph repeatedly, savoring the way Laurie Frankel puts these words together. It's such a pleasure to read a well-constructed book, with thoughtful characters and surprising circumstances. It's smart, too; great dialog and exposition that does exactly what it's supposed to do without distracting from the pace of the story. My copy showed up yesterday, and I'm already three-quarters of the way through it. When I'm done, no doubt, I'll read it again- it's that good.
