A dated, but good starting point

It can not be over emphasized that thirty-five years have passed since the publication of this book. Osprey was still "creating the template" for their outstanding series in 1973. Huge amounts of archival documentation have come to light in the intervening time period. That said, this is still a good read with wonderful illustrations by the consistently excellent R. Ottenfield. Albert Seaton's text provides a good study of the background of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and it's role in the war. The book does not have much information on the organisation, training and tactics of the army in question. However, back in 1973, prior to the Seven Years War Association, and the numerous works of Christopher Duffy, any information of the SevenYears War in Europe was a treasure trove to American wargamers and military modellers.
