Development of the personality and a natural mode of life through training of the ego, tuning the heart, and developing will power. This description may be from another edition of this product.
To indulge or not to indulge, to be or not to be, is the question. The essence of this book is to be found in the Holy Qur'aanulQariim, if one dived deep enough to discover, and the paths afortuned by the messages propagated by 126,000 prophets {May Peace Be Upon Them All!} and the Saints {Auliya}.Sheikh put it in a language contemporary humans can understand, or humans who are likely less to touch the Qur'aanulQariim for fear of a better change for themselves. - To be a human, especially one who proclaims having intelligence and a heart, is one of the most difficult thing for any human to be-come, especially so in a world bereft of chaos, madness, deceit etc.Apart from the Qur'aanulQariim, this book would make a wonderful companion. It explains in simple English, the reason one is here on earth, and what one needs to do in order to attain "perfection" {InsanulKamil} so to speak. It reminds you of a past you are likely to have forgotten due to cultural and political conditioning. It took me a full month of April reading this in Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, and I wish I had brought more than just one copy to pass it along to friends I've made during my journey to the CIS. This is a worthwhile book to consider, if you consider going "HOME" in a good package.
The Art of Being and Becoming

Congratulations on finding this book, if you randomly got here. I purchase this book often, because I give it away often. I find it to be the best book to give to a friend if they have inquired about the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan but have not yet read anything else from the collection of books that contain his teachings. It is very approachable, articulate and we in the "west" can relate to it easily. Best wishes.
I too consider this book to be my personal bible.

Reading The Art of Being and Becoming was a life-changing experience for me. I first read it about five years ago and have re-read it at least once a year ever since. Each time I underline or highlight new sentences that ring of beauty and truth until most of the book is now highlighted. I have given many friends and loved ones copies of this book and consider it to be the best gift I have ever given.

This book, I certainly can agree and wholeheartedly say is my personal bible as I see it is to many others . Hazrat Inayat Khan speaks in such beautiful, and sweet manner he truly can speak to your soul - though written many years ago. Admittedly, when I first read it,I believed it was written fairly recently!! A wonderful compliment to this book is ' Illuminated Rumi'
My Own Personal Bible
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
Not being a religious person, and having no recognizable beliefs in the matter of religion or God, many of my friends were surprised to hear me refer to this book as "My own personal bible". Hazrat Inayat Khan, a Sufi master and enlightened coach for the western world, writes here his apolitical, non-denominational, personal manifesto of all that he found to be worthwhile and valuable in this collective agreement we call reality. Although he wrote other books, it is this one which I consider to be his definitive work. I read the book once and found so much relevant life-altering material, that I resolved to read it again and highlight the most important parts for easier future reference. After highlighting over 50% of the first two chapters, I stopped. I was highlighting almost the entire book! "The Art of Being and Becoming" by Hazrat Inayat Khan is a book full of practical advice which actually has the capability to enlighten the reader just through reading. He calls all of us to be as great and magnificent as he. This book makes him truly immortal, as one can perceive the beautiful person that is Hazrat Inayat Khan flowing like a river from the pages of this book.
