GREATNESS SHOULD FOLLOW

THE ACORN PLAN forecasts a great future for Tim McLaurin. In it he proves himself a supreme storyteller. Most of his characters from the underbelly of east Fayetteville, NC, are well-developed and believable. McLaurin understands that the heartbreaking and triumphant moments in life are often entertwined. The doomed character Bubble is a near perfect rendering of alchoholism's slow burning gravity, while his nephew, the protagonist, rises from those very flames toward a promising future.THE ACORN PLAN is not as carefully written as McLaurin's latter books, but it is written with a great deal of passion.

Great Southern Writing

Here is a great work of Southern writing by an under-recognized writer from North Carolina. Mr. McLaurin's plots bloom from his rich characters. In "The Acorn Plan," Billy is a reckless young man who must decide whether or not to maintain the tough reputation his lifestyle has earned him by publicly fighting a marine with whom he has an ongoing conflict; Bubble is Billy's uncle who casts aside his job and family to devote his life to drinking "all the wine in the world" while Bubble's sister, Billy's aunt, wipes tables at a truck stop in wait of the perfect man who never seems to come through the door. Moving, sad, inspiring, victorious, "The Acorn Plan" is a real Southern novel about real Southern people making choices and facing the consequences, rising and falling, living their lives as best they know how...
