Resistance Organizing

Textimonio editor, Arturo Rosales, offers a wealth of information on how Mexican Americans have resisted bigotry and discrimination over the decades. In 400+ pages, the Arizona State University takes us from the early 1800s up to today with newspaper items, political pronouncements, field accounts, manifestos, testimony, primary source documents that comprise the segregation experiences of Mexican Americans. Readers see the bigoted statements of elected officials; but more importantly we see how the community fought back. This is a book for all us, not for Mexican Americans or Latinos/as only. Too often our young people are taught little about the organizing for freedom and dignity done by communities of identity in various time periods. We can deplore the level of violence today within some segments of our youth; but we can do more. We can help them learn of the horrors and the triumphs that are part and parcel of all racial/ethnic communities. Textimonio is an excellent resource to help that along.
