More, Please!

Katy and her son Jake live alone in an apartment, and this single mother is struggling to keep her schedule straight. When her babysitter doesn't show up, Jake decides he can stay home on his own, but doesn't tell his mom he will be alone. Katy arrives home assuming the babysitter left him alone for 5 minutes, and made rice krispie treats. A few days later when a strange man arrives at her door carrying rice krispie treats, Jake's plot unravels as he has to explain his new friend. Royce has returned to the United States after a mining accident in Russia leaves him with a missing hand. While he recovers he is determined to live alone and manage with only his own persistence. When he begins hearing Morse code signals from the ceiling above, he gets to know Jake and finds himself coming back for more - not just from Jake, but from his mother who intrigues him. TEMPORARY NANNY is a sad tale filled with humour and tension. Royce's road to recovery is not an easy one, the therapy, relearning to do everything one handed and more lead to what could easily become a grumpy man. When Jake begins playing with Morse code, he has no idea anyone will respond, but just as most ten year olds, he doesn't look back on a good thing. Royce makes great rice krispie treats, can play catch, and genuinely likes Jake; what more could a boy want? The interaction between these two characters is priceless. As much as the story line between Katy and Royce is filled with love and passion, the actions of Royce toward Jake speak of love and the ability to have a family. Carrie Weaver has intricately told a tale that could have ended in tragedy. Royce and his adult son, Michael's long standing issues fill the pages with emotional drama as well as the main characters' drama as they find out whether then can make a life together, deal with an ex-husband who comes back for his son, and raise a child together. This reader felt the best thing about TEMPORARY NANNY was the secondary characters. While they were not the main characters, they come across as real people, presenting dilemmas that real people might face today in a world where second marriages have become the norm. This reviewer cannot wait to see if Ms. Weaver continues to share more about this group of characters down the road, she feels that Michael needs his own story, that something brought him back into this novel over and over and that there is a juicy tidbit that makes him something special Review Courtesy of LoveRomancesandmore
