I Will Do What I Can

TELL IT LIKE IT IS by Disney has two parts that deal with teenager Raven, who has psychic powers. When Raven has a vision of something that will happen, she usually tries to prevent it if is something bad, and if it's something good, she tells her friends all about it. Needless to say, the majority of her visions are not as they appear, and she ends up getting half the story. In part one, Chelsea Daniels, one of Raven's best friends, runs for class president. She is very political and knows the student handbook almost verbatim. She wants to make real changes for the school and believes running for class president would be a good start. Raven fully supports Chelsea; however, she has a vision that Chelsea loses by 184 votes. Raven doesn't reveal her vision to Chelsea as she doesn't want to hurt her feelings. Instead, she and her other best friend, Eddie, do everything in their power to ensure Chelsea wins the election. They begin doing favors for their classmates in exchange for votes for Chelsea, such as walking dogs, babysitting and doing homework. Chelsea gets wind of what her friends are doing and ends up getting hurt anyway. In part two, Raven has a vision that her parents are getting a divorce. Her parents, as far as she knows, are happily married and have been for a long time. She notices them arguing a bit more, and her vision makes her believe a divorce is in the making. In an effort to keep them together, she does everything in her power to help them remember why they fell in love, including recreating their first date. Although all of Raven's efforts are for a good cause, her vision didn't mean what she thought it did. TELL IT LIKE IT IS is a wonderfully written humorous book that touches on both the art of friendship and family love. It teaches children how precious friendship is and what measures good friends will go through to ensure their friend's happiness. It also shows how important family is and how children will do anything to make sure their parents stay together. Reviewed by Eraina B. Tinnin of The RAWSISTAZ™ Reviewers
