Lives up to the Hype!!

Actually one of the best books for the occasional programmer tomake the move into Java. Make no mistakes about it - the book wasoriginally printed with scores of errors (most are gone now) and is not for anyone who has never programmed before. For those of us who have - Lemay delivers another great book.

THE Java Book to Get

I bought the original, and went back just to get this edition. Despite what others have said, I find this book extremely well-written and organized so that the beginner, as well as the accomplished programmer can quickly and efficiently learn the Java Language

With so many java books out, this IS THE ONE TO GET!

I purchased about 4 java books before finding this little gem. This was the first book that really gave your the feeling your were learning java instead of just being a technical reference. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs or wants to learn Java in a short period of time. Excellent book.

What a book! Very helpful! Well written! Great examples!

This is the best book I've read on Java. It covers the whole language, not just a piece, and covers the all important toolkits such as AWT. The true test of a book that teaches a programming language is this - can you program in the language after reading the book and working through its exercises? This book passes the acid test with flying colors. After working through this book, you will be a productive Java programmer

A well written tutorial of the Java language

- Good overview of Java history - Good examples - Laura does an excellent job explaining difficult concepts
