Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons: Revised and Updated Second Edition

This is a great tool for teaching. The picture of the book is from a newer edition though, so like others have stated, I received an older edition of the book. I should've known better and looked up when the second edition revised was printed. Oh well, it's still useful, just the examples are outdated.

I'm sure this book will still work, but a bit frustrated that it's a different version than what I thought I was getting.

My husband taught our granddaughter how to read in one summer! COVID and kindergarten by computer at home prevented her from learning this most important skill. This book was simple, fun and educational! Entering third grade, she loves to read and has confidence because she can. Yes, I think this book is excellent!

I ordered this book and got the old version that was so water damaged that the pages will not open.

I purchased multiple books to help me figure out how best to teach my child to read. This book was difficult to engage with. I found another one that’s far more user friendly, and works.

The new edition was advertised and I thought I was purchasing the new one. I got sent the old one.

"I like it a lot!" She is determined to finish it this summer so she can be ready for school in August. She is going to 2nd grade

Some of the exercises seem pointless, but I have taught two children to read using this book as part of our homeschool. Combine this with a daily read-aloud, and you’ll probably do just fine.

We've used this book for 35 plus years in our house, all the kids and grandkids started their reading with this... Although it's great for most kid's, it wasn't helpful for me when I was learning to read as a kid, but that's not the books fault... You see I have dyslexia and don't know until I was in my 20s...I tell you this so that if you notice your child struggling with things like getting the lowercase b & d mixed up, or having difficulty with the different sounds a or e make, then you might want to do two things, one download the dyslexia font for your child (believe me it really helps) and two, be patient with them, reading hurts their eyes and brain...

I'm so impressed with how this book was put together. The lessons are fool proof for the parent, as they are written with detailed directions. New sounds are gradually worked into previously mastered tasks so that the child is never given more than he/she can handle (this does wonders for my daughter's reading confidence). Before you know it, your child is reading three and four paragraphs, and the process of getting there wasn't painful at all!One note: I have read other reviews from parents using this book with 3 and 4 year olds. Certainly, if your preschooler shows an interest in reading, this book is an excellent choice. But NOTHING will work unless your child is READY to learn, not even "100 Lessons." Reading readiness happens at different ages (like every other milestone in childhood), and we as parents must respect our children's personal timetables (difficult to do sometimes, I know). Hey, remember when WE were in kindergarten? We spent our days playing, painting, napping (do they even nap anymore these days). Reading came along in first grade, and many of us may not have been ready to learn until then.That said, buy the book and use it when your particular family is ready ~ ENJOY! :o)
