Tasks for Teacher Education: A Reflective Approach

I teach TESOL certificate and practical teaching classes at a university in Korea, and I've been using this book (along with the trainers book) for the last year. I have used about 70% of the material and I fully recommend it. It gets straight into the practical issues of teacher training, and includes lots of useful and thoughtful exercises for trainee teachers to examine their own preconceptions about teaching, through focused observation, games and micro-teaching sessions. If you are a teacher trainer, you will soon find this book becoming a necessary part of your course, either to dip into for supplementary materials, or as the course book for your trainee teachers. You'll have to buy the trainer's book as well though, since that has the photocopiable materials upon which the course book depends. The only complaint I have is that the materials have become a little dated in places (references to audio tape etc). If it were updated and accompanied with videos of teaching to complement the observation forms then I would have no hesitation in awarding it a five star review.
