This latest book in the Falconhurt series was written long after I had finished what I thought was the last book in the series, HEIR to FALCONHURST. TAPROOTS of FALCONHURST tells us what happened to Hammond Maxwell when he was living in Texas. There is a new woman, new children and new problems, but he handles things like he usually does--he doesn't care about anyone but himself. Then one day, he meets a young couple on the run from the law. The young man is his own son! Tiger was born to one of Hammond's black bed wenches (a woman named Lilith) who was sold a short time later. Tiger has escaped from the plantation where he was sold, married a white woman (what a scandal!) and murdered her stepfather! Hammond brings him back to Falconhurst to hang for his crime. But he has a sad homecoming. His father is dead, his daughter barely knows him and he seems to regret what he is about to do. But leave it to Lucretia Borgia! She is the answer to his prayers. This book is slow moving in parts, but it picks up near the end. If you loved the other books in the series (this one features all your favorite characters too), you'll like this one too. Buy it. Read it. And love it!
