At the end of the Civil War, a young house slave on a small North Carolina plantation searches for her mother who was mysteriously sold when Tancy was a baby. This description may be from another edition of this product.
The story line, although fiction, contains many facts I was taught before even reading this book. Information about 40 acres & a mule, life after slavery, and the typical abuse slaves had to endure would really open the minds of anyone OPEN to contemplating researching, or even try to understand the TRUE history of early African-American people. Great job Ms. Hurmence.
Tancy-story of a freed slave

Tancy is an incredible book. All though it is fictional, the book is an excellent portrayal of the life of a slave girl during the civil war and her search for her long lost mother. I highly recommend this book to all teen-aged readers.
