This book about fishing I believe will appeal to the everyday fisherman, the guy who goes out to the nearest lake or stream to practice his hobby. To be sure, Zane Grey does it in "style" with the latest and greatest equipment and with an abundance of supplies and help. But what he does anyone could do, especially today. He pioneered fishing in places no one had before, and explored areas no one had been to before, and consequently opened them to the world--for the good or bad, depending on how much of an environmentalist you are. Zane Grey recognized this potential detrement himself, and wondered if he were doing the right thing. But taken as a whole, what Zane Grey did for the sport of fishing--all types of fishing--this book on fresh water fishing will make any everyday angler want to get out and do it even more, and not only to just catch fish, but enjoy the surroundings, the peace and quiet, the thrill of the outdoors, the companionship of camping buddies--all that entails the art of catching fish; yet the catching of fish is not the all in all, as this book clearly shows. There is one story about his younger son, Loren, that is quite touching, and indeed is a fitting climax to the book.
Fishing with Zane

This has a limited audience, to be sure, however if you're a fan of fishing, especially in Oregon, this is for you. I bought it because my grandfather (The Mr. Carlon who accompanies Zane Grey on the Rogue river,) is mentioned in the book. They fished together and left my grandmother home with four boys.
