Hot Stories

Wolfe, Sean. "Taboo", Kensington Books, 2008. Hot Stories Amos Lassen When I see the name Sean Wolfe, I know that I have some excellent gay erotic fiction to read and I usually start on the spot. In his first two books, "Close Contact" and "Aroused", he wrote some of the best erotica I ever read and I wondered if there was any way he could top those. Not only are his stories sexy and very provocative, Wolfe has a literary style that is smart and d literate. It isn't just the sex that pulls the reader in; it is also Wolfe's great writing. I am taking a big step by saying that his new book, "Taboo" id even more erotic than its predecessors and shows more imagination. It is a collection of sophisticated stories that are sensual, controversial, that are extremely readable and unbelievably sexy. The title alone lets you know that you are in for something completely different. "Taboo" is divided into four sections: "The West Coast", "The Midwest/Middle America", "The Deep South" and "The East Coast". Wolfe begins each section with a short introduction about what is particular and representative of each section and then follows that with stories representative of each area. Taboos are fascinating and we, as gay men, identify with them because we are taboo ourselves. People feel that we threaten the existing order and therefore we are looked at as others. What this book does is look at the way society classifies as taboo because we do not exist, in their minds, for the good of the country. Sex is probably the last taboo and we are blamed for making it such. According to the moral majority we have taken something that is very pure and turned it into something disgusting. Sex is sex as it has always been; it has not changed. What has changed is the way people regard it. Those who are not with us are afraid of us and fear leads to misunderstanding. Uniting the stories is Chance McAllister who is traveling across the United States and tells us of his sexual escapades as he makes his journey of self-discovery--some of them are quite controversial but if we read with an open mind there is quite a lot here to enjoy. My only problem now is wondering how Wolfe will top this collection. I don't think it will be easy to do.
