Susan B. Anthony (fighter for women's rights)

Levin, Pamela. Susan B. Anthony Fighter for Women's Rights. USA: Chelsea Juniors, 1993 Susan B. Anthony was one of America's greatest crusaders for social justice. In the latter half of the 19th century, Anthony traveled thousands of miles to speak, organize, and gather petitions demanding equal rights for women and blacks. Born in 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts, Anthony worked for more that ten years as a school teacher. She made her first speech at a temperance (anti-alcohol) meeting at the age of 29. After being denied the right to speak at a temperance convention because she was a woman, Anthony dedicated the rest of her life to fighting for women's rights. Her greatest victory came 14years after her death, when in 1920 the Nineteenth Amendment. To the U.S. Constitution finally gave American women the right to vote. Ratified on the 100th anniversary of her birth, it became known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment. In this book there is a timeline that is useful but to figure out what some things are you have to read the book. On the cover there is a picture of Susan's face. This book is hardcover and has 79 pages. I think this book was just right because it wasn't too long or too short. I like this book because it talks about and describes how women used to be treated and it tells us what Susan did to make the first step to change that. If I could talk to the author I would ask her what made her want to write about this or what inspired her to write it. I also think that the author should maybe get a new artist and make a better design so people will be interested but don't make it to crazy otherwise people wont read it only look. If you like to learn about revolution, this would be a great book to read.
