Supernatural Sleuths: 14 Mysterious Stories of Uncanny Crime

A pretty average anthology at 3.36. The title is a little misleading, too, if you were expecting these stories to be all occult detectives or ghost busters. That is not the case, although there are some classic characters like Silver John or Jules de Grandin to be found here. However, science fiction stories like Niven and Levinson, and some cops that happen to come across something supernatural without being aware of its existence before you will also find in this book. O.K., so I'm a sucker for anthologies, but this one is different. The stories range from "Children of Ubasti," by Seabury Queen, first published in 1929, to "The Chronology Protection Case," by Paul Levinson, published just one year ago. By not commissioning stories specifically for this compendium, the editors have shown us the historical development of the supernatural short story in the 20th century, as well as providing an unsurpassed collection of vampires, ghosts, and ghouls that are sure to stir your blood, provided you have not already joined the "Supernatural Sleuths" on the other side.
