Summer (Witch Season)

"If you don't want to help me, just get out of the way. He's loosing blood and he can't stay out here over night." As she pulled the strange man into the house, her friends backed away. After trying to nurse her dying mother back to health, she had some experience with the near death. Kerry is smart, perseveres for what she believes in, and doesn't take no for an answer. she had a normal life before her parents died, but now it is turned even more upside down when she meets Daniel. All she wants to do is have a little fun for once. Daniel hasn't been the same since his brother died. Along with almost all of his entire hometown, he is looking for someone. A girl who killed his brother and his dad. Her name is Season Howe, and she may kill again. As I read this book, I couldn't put it down. It has adventure and romance. There is a strong connection between Kerry and Daniel from the very beginnng and throughout the whole book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes being in touch with the characters as they read and who loves to bet lost in books. By:Megan K.

Kerry Proffit it working a Summer job and staying with a bunch of coworkers. One day she discovers a wounded man outside their place and takes him in to care for him (these actions are explained). The man turns out to be Daniel Blessing and he claims to be a witch. He also claims he was almost killed by a terrible witch known as Season Howe. It is hard for the group to believe Daniel but Kerry begins to when their paths cross that of Season. Suddenly the group is no longer just a mismatched bunch of teens working the Summer but they find themselves in deadly danger as they now are also targets of Season. The hunt is on as the Daniel and the teens try to locate Season and take her by surprise. The ending will surprise some. Unlike most teen novels the romance is not played up. What little there is. But it is present and it naturally takes back seat to surviving the danger. But by the end of the book one wonders just where the next three books are going to take the reader. I am not sure where that will be but I definitely want to find out.

Kerry Proffit's summer couldn't be going better. Everything is just perfect, until a severely injured stranger shows up on their doorstep, or, to be exact, behind their bushes. The stranger, Daniel Blessing, possesses a mysterious past, one that makes Kerry look past his handsome demeanor, and deeper into his life history, which is how she finds that Daniel is on the run from a powerful witch known as Season. Kerry and the rest of her crew think that Daniel is pulling their leg, after all, there are no such thing as witches. But the more time that Kerry spends with Daniel, the more that she believes that he's telling her the truth. Which is bad, because Season is now on the trail of Kerry and her friends, and in the end, someone might not survive... As a fan of Jeff Mariotte's work on the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER novelizations, I knew that I had to have WITCH SEASON: SUMMER. However, I am surprised to report, I enjoyed the book even more than I originally thought that I would. Kerry is a wonderful character, whose inquisitiveness, and many journal entries placed sporadically throughout the book, will keep you gripping your seat until the very last page is read. This is the best book I have ever read. It is both entertaining and well done. Jeff Mariotte does an excellent job in creating both humor and suspense in this book and knowing when one should be present more than the other. This book does not have one mood throughout the whole book. Instead, there are many. There is suspense, love, excitement, and mystery. This makes for a more interesting book. Plot: Kerry is doing her summer job at a resort in San Diego to make some extra money. One day while she is at her lodging house provided by the resort she notices a young man, half dead lying in the bushes. Kerry finds out his name is Daniel Blessing and he is in pursuit of an evil witch named Season. Daniel also has magic powers and says he must kill Season because she has caused hundreds to die an undeserving death. Daniel, Kerry, and all her friends must track down Season to kill her so Season can not hurt anyone else. Will they succeed? Read this book to find out.

This is a fun book, and although clearly aimed at YA is well-plotted and thus fun for all ages. Marriotte's style his deceptively breezy, yet ten miles above Stine and his ilk, so you'll have a good time.
